Varelialife Care Guide
Jewelry Care
Statement jewelry is designed to be seen, worn, styled, and remembered. With simple care between wears, your Varelialife pieces can retain their shape, surface finish, shine, and distinctive character for longer.
Before You Wear
Care begins before your jewelry touches the skin.
Varelialife jewelry includes a variety of materials, finishes, decorative stones, chains, settings, silver posts, stainless steel components, plated metal, resin, glass, pearls, enamel, and mixed-material details. Because each material reacts differently to moisture, friction, chemicals, storage, and daily wear, no single cleaning method is appropriate for every piece.
As a general rule, jewelry should be the final element you put on after perfume, lotion, hairspray, makeup, sunscreen, and other personal-care products have dried. It should also be the first element removed when changing clothes, washing, exercising, bathing, swimming, or preparing for sleep.
Darkened finishes, antiqued surfaces, hand-applied coatings, iridescent stones, enamel, pearls, and sculptural components require especially gentle handling. Normal changes in surface tone can occur over time and may become part of the character of a frequently worn piece.
Six habits that make a visible difference
Small daily habits are more effective than aggressive cleaning after damage has already occurred.
Keep jewelry dry
Remove pieces before showering, swimming, washing your face, washing dishes, entering a sauna, or exercising. Water, salt, chlorine, and repeated humidity can affect plating, dark finishes, adhesives, pearls, resin, and decorative settings.
Avoid direct chemicals
Perfume, hairspray, lotion, sunscreen, cleaning products, alcohol, hand sanitizer, and cosmetics may dull surfaces or alter color. Apply these products first and allow them to dry before wearing jewelry.
Reduce friction
Repeated contact with handbags, hard desks, zippers, textured clothing, other jewelry, or gym equipment may scratch polished areas and wear down coatings. Avoid stacking delicate surfaces directly against abrasive pieces.
Handle closures gently
Open clasps, ear backs, adjustable bands, detachable charms, and sliding mechanisms by holding the intended hardware rather than pulling the decorative sections, chains, gemstones, or pendant details.
Clean after wearing
Body oils and residue can remain on metal and stones even when they are not visible. A gentle wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth after wear helps reduce buildup and maintain clarity.
Store pieces separately
Individual pouches or compartments help prevent tangled chains, scratched stones, bent ear posts, crushed sculptural details, and unwanted contact between silver-tone, blackened, plated, and polished surfaces.

Daily Routine
A gentle reset after every wear
You do not need a complicated cleaning process after each use. Most pieces benefit from a short, careful routine completed before they are placed back into storage.
- Check the clasp, connecting rings, stone settings, ear posts, hooks, and adjustable components for visible movement.
- Use a soft dry cloth to remove fingerprints, skin oils, makeup residue, and light dust.
- Allow any piece exposed to light moisture to dry completely before closing it inside a pouch or jewelry box.
- Lay chains flat or fasten clasps before storage to reduce knots and tangling.
- Keep sculptural earrings, floral details, cages, butterfly wings, crosses, and extended decorative elements away from heavy objects.
- Do not use tissue, rough paper, toothpaste, baking soda, hard brushes, polishing paste, or household cleaners on mixed-material jewelry.
Material-Specific Care
Different surfaces need different treatment
Always follow the most delicate care method required by any component in the piece. For example, an earring with a stainless steel post, plated decorative body, resin detail, and glass stone should be cared for as a mixed-material item rather than cleaned as plain stainless steel.
Stainless steel components
Recommended: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth only when necessary, then dry immediately and completely. A dry microfiber jewelry cloth is suitable for routine care.
Avoid: Chlorine, salt water, long soaking, abrasive tools, and contact with harder metal items that could scratch polished surfaces.
925 sterling silver posts
Recommended: Clean the post gently with a suitable silver polishing cloth, taking care not to rub attached plated, resin, enamel, or stone components. Make sure posts and backs are dry before storage.
Natural change: Sterling silver can darken through oxidation. This is a natural surface reaction rather than proof that the post is defective.
Plated and coated metal
Recommended: Use only a clean, soft, dry cloth with light pressure. Store pieces separately and reduce repeated friction against skin, clothing, countertops, and other jewelry.
Avoid: Commercial metal polish, silver dip, ultrasonic cleaners, abrasive cloths, vigorous rubbing, and repeated bending. These methods can remove or unevenly alter the outer finish.
Gunmetal and antiqued finishes
Recommended: Preserve the intentionally darkened surface by wiping gently rather than polishing aggressively. The shaded areas are often part of the intended gothic or vintage appearance.
Avoid: Products designed to restore bright silver shine, as they may remove contrast and change the appearance of recessed details.
Glass crystals and gemstones
Recommended: Remove fingerprints using a soft, clean cloth. Hold the setting rather than the stone when adjusting or removing the jewelry.
Avoid: Impact against hard surfaces, rapid temperature changes, soaking, harsh cleaners, and scraping around settings with sharp objects.
Resin, enamel and acrylic
Recommended: Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and sharp metal edges. Keep these components free from perfume and alcohol-based products.
Avoid: Acetone, sanitizer, boiling water, prolonged UV exposure, hair dryers, and abrasive cleaners, all of which may dull, discolor, soften, or damage the surface.
Imitation pearls
Recommended: Wipe pearls individually with a soft dry cloth after wearing. Store them in a smooth pouch where they will not rub against chains, crystals, or textured metal.
Avoid: Water, perfume, hairspray, detergent, and jewelry-cleaning solutions. The outer pearl coating is delicate and may be affected by chemicals and friction.
Chains and moving parts
Recommended: Fasten necklace clasps before storage, separate fine chains, and operate sliding beads or detachable elements slowly. Support the chain near the mechanism during adjustment.
Avoid: Pulling sharply, lifting heavy objects with hand chains, sleeping in long earrings, or forcing a clasp that feels stuck.
Storage and Travel
Protect the shape, not only the shine.
Many Varelialife designs use extended shapes, suspended pendants, open rings, layered chains, sculptural flowers, butterfly wings, eye motifs, cages, crosses, pearls, and other dimensional elements. These forms should be protected from pressure as carefully as their surfaces are protected from scratches.
A cool, dry drawer or enclosed jewelry box is preferable to an open bathroom shelf. High humidity can accelerate surface changes and may affect adhesives, coatings, and mixed-material components.
For travel, choose a structured jewelry case rather than placing loose pieces into a handbag. Secure each item separately and place earrings so that posts cannot bend or pierce nearby pouches.
Necklaces and chokers
Fasten the clasp and lay the necklace flat. Keep long chains separated and avoid folding rigid collars or pressing heavy items on sculptural pendants.
Earrings
Attach the backs loosely to the posts and store each pair in its own section. Long drop earrings should be laid straight to reduce tangling.
Open and adjustable rings
Adjust only when necessary and store in the desired shape. Repeated opening and closing can weaken the band or damage plating at the pressure points.
Hand chains and delicate connectors
Close the bracelet clasp, place the ring section flat, and arrange the connecting chain without knots. Do not hang heavy charms from fine links.
Travel packing
Use a rigid case with individual compartments. Place a soft barrier between raised stones and neighboring pieces, and keep jewelry away from leaking cosmetic containers.
Care Questions
Frequently asked questions
The following guidance is general. For questions about a specific Varelialife product, send us the product name, order number, and a clear photograph.
Can I wear my jewelry in the shower?
We recommend removing all Varelialife jewelry before showering. Even when a base metal is relatively water-resistant, the complete design may include plating, dark coatings, resin, enamel, pearls, crystals, adhesives, or mixed components that should not be repeatedly exposed to water and steam.
Is the jewelry suitable for swimming?
No. Chlorinated pools, seawater, hot tubs, and mineral-rich water may accelerate discoloration, affect decorative finishes, and leave residue in detailed settings or chain links.
Can I use a jewelry-cleaning liquid?
Do not use cleaning liquid unless the product is clearly identified as safe for every material in the piece. Many commercial solutions are unsuitable for plating, gunmetal finishes, enamel, resin, imitation pearls, glued stones, and mixed-material jewelry.
Why has the surface color changed?
Metal surfaces can respond to air, moisture, skin chemistry, cosmetics, friction, storage conditions, and frequency of wear. Gradual surface change is common in fashion jewelry and may vary from person to person. Following the care guidance on this page can help slow the process.
Can adjustable rings fit every finger?
Adjustable rings allow limited sizing flexibility, but they are not infinitely adjustable. Move both sides gently and evenly. Avoid frequent reshaping, sudden bending, or forcing the ring beyond its natural range.
How should I clean earring posts?
After removing the earrings, wipe the posts and backs gently with a clean soft cloth. When appropriate for the specific material, a small amount of suitable post-cleaning solution may be applied to the post only. Keep liquid away from decorative coatings, resin, pearls, and glued components.
What should I do if a clasp feels difficult to open?
Do not pull the chain or decorative area. Hold the clasp body securely and operate the lever slowly. If the mechanism appears bent or damaged, stop using the piece and contact us with a close, well-lit photograph.
Can I sleep in the jewelry?
We recommend removing jewelry before sleeping. Pressure from pillows, bedding, hair, and body movement may bend posts, distort chains, loosen stones, compress sculptural details, or cause discomfort.
